In case nobody knew, there is a new book coming about talking about the Mormon connection to Nazism.
That’s right. Mormons and Nazis.
Now I in no way doubt that there were probably some members of the church that lived in pre-WWII Germany who looked at Hitler’s us-vs-them message of Germany “moral Christian nation” to heart.
In the church it’s generally understood that this is God’s church and everyone else may have a lot of light and truth but they still need the saving ordinances which God gave to us.
In no way am I denying the idea that Mormons wouldn’t have found that appealing in some way.
But I just can’t believe that the Church ever would have been cool with the idea of killing Jews, Jehovah’s Witnesses, or non-aryan people.
But the fun doesn’t stop at Nazism in the church.
We’re also responsible for torturing people.
And speaking of torture…
We’re literally killing children. Go us.
Now I think it’s true – what is happening at Guantanamo is horrible, and those responsible for it should be held accountable.
Also church members have an LGBT issue. We need to treat our LGBT members way better than we do. But really… bankrolling the slaughter of innocent LGBT children?
It’s sad more than anything. When someone says it’s Mormonism’s fault for torturing detained people it really takes away from valid criticisms about the church’s political stances. When someone says we’re bank-rolling LGBT suicides with tithe money it robs the criticisms of greater kindness and love for others.
These ideas are simply beyond absurd.
And because of that they should be dealt with in an absurd way.
If there is one thing I have learned from Mormon Feminists, it’s that stupidity should be met with satire.
And now I introduce to you a hashtag and meme that I hope we can all start using.
#ThanksMormons
It’s like the #ThanksObama Memes if you haven’t picked up on that yet.
Because as we know, if it isn’t the Mormon’s fault, it’s certainly Obama’s fault.
So please feel free to take this meme and make it go viral… or at least as viral as a meme can get in the online Mormon world. Use it whenever something big hits the news about how Mormons supported Joseph Stalin in killing millions of people, or how Mormons worked with George bush to attack the people of New Orleans by creating hurricane Katrina, or how for when we’re found responsible for the riots in Ferguson.
Or simply when people blame Mormonism from something that it has no more business being blamed for than anyone else.
You totally know that Voldermort worked as an Honor Code officer at BYU. He didn’t like Dumbledore’s beard.
You can also use this meme when you want to show why people are being ridiculous when they blame everything on Utah as well.
I mean really…. don’t tell me you couldn’t see this happening in the south somewhere. You know this totally happens in Alabama.
Now with all this being said and done, we do have some serious cultural problems in Mormonism, things that need fixing. But let’s give credit where credit is due. Mormons mean well. We don’t want to hurt people. We try to live Christ-like lives.
Can we just acknowledge that we aren’t Nazi-supporting, Gitmo-torturing, child-killers?
Because if we can’t even acknowledge that, then there is no reason to have any further discussion.
