Ryan K. Shosted is Professor of Linguistics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He was born in Salt Lake City. He studied Czech, wore out two pairs of black Doc Martens in the Brazilian Serra Geral, and subsequently graduated from BYU. He spent a Fulbright year in Mozambique before earning a PhD at UC Berkeley. Ryan hopes his research and teaching helps people appreciate the mysteries of the spoken and written word. He may be observed carrying with him swarms of bees.
