A couple, quick thoughts on using the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints’ proper name instead of nicknames like “the LDS Church” and “The Mormon Church.”
1. The Cultural Hall probably didn’t write the article you’re critiquing. Please stop yelling at us.
2. President Russell M Nelson made it clear that we should be patient with others as they adapt to changes. He also said that it will take time for people to accept the new style guide suggestions… so like… be patient.
3. Have you ever tried putting “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints” in a title with limited space? I’m just saying, be a little forgiving.
4. The purpose of the name change, as made clear by President Nelson, was to declare to the world that Christ is our savior. He is the center of our religion. It’s also clear that the call is to make *US* focus on what that means to *US* in our lives.
5. The purpose of the name change isn’t to go “AHHHHHHHHH! You didn’t respect my identifiers!” If that’s what you took from it, then you’re really missing the point.
6. President Nelson gave two specific examples of how we should act when people call us Mormons. It would probably be best to mimic that tone and attitude instead of yelling “Fake news.”
7. 99 times out of 100, the article you’re critiquing isn’t fake news. If we’re going to get angry every time someone makes a decision to make a legible headline, we’re probably doing the opposite of what Christ would want us to do. Especially considering how all of us were doing the same thing like… a month ago.
8. Now try to be more patient and go have lunch with some lepers, publicans, and sinners as Christ would.
