My very first car was a 1965 Mustang. Unfortunately, I reached my pinnacle of cool cars when I was 16 years old. I am now a working mother of two and I can’t tell you how badly I want to drive a mini van. That is right. A mini van. Unfortunately my “cool car” identity is still lingering in my brain and my PRIDE won’t let me buy one!! Why?! Why can’t I embrace the sliding doors, the 8-cup holders that are just in the front seat, the captain’s chairs, the reclining captains chairs, the amazing storage…everywhere. Why oh why can’t I do it?!!!
Well, I need four-wheel drive. I live in Utah for heavens sake. For those 3 snow days a year that I just might need it. I also need doors so when my 3 year old throws her door open it slams into the car next to it. I will be honest. My SUV has almost everything a Mini Van has and I still get to keep my “coolness”. NOT!! Did I mention the 8, yes, that is right 8 cup holders that are in the FRONT seats of most mini vans?
For those of you who listen to the show you know my husband and I love to travel. It is our hobby. I’m starting to think it’s so I can rent a mini-van. Yep, I travel to drive a rental mini van. I can’t tell you how giddy I get. I almost enjoy picking it out more than a perfect day at Disney…whoa…let’s not go that far…but close, the joy is close.
When I see mini vans driving down the road, I get a little jealous. I will even see a new one and say to my husband, look, that one’s not too bad…right? He just rolls his eyes and tells me to buy one already! I can’t. The pride.
What is it they say…the only thing that comes between good relationships is pride. I guess I’ll have to get by some how until I can embrace that I am a “soccer mom” and my cool car identity died years ago.

Minivans are great for hauling kayaks. With the seats out I can get 6 or 7 in the back and 6 on the yakima rack up top. That’s almost cool. Besides, they are a great dill.
Hahaha, Rob!!
