The Bre Project

Jenny’s daughter Bre, has Osteosarcoma she is a 14 year old competitive dancer. When started complaining of leg pain they took her the doctor and they said it looked like a stress fracture, but they wanted to do an MRI. Right off the bat they told us we had bigger issues, it looked like she had a bone tumor, they sent us to a specialist and they did a bone biopsy, and it came back as Osteosarcoma.

She lost her hair within 2 weeks of her chemo, and it never really bugged her. She’s never embarrassed about it, she’s always got a smile on her face. We couldn’t have done this without our family and friends. People we don’t even know, total strangers have been so thoughtful and made this a lot easier to get through.

I want people to make themselves aware of the lack of funding and education and research that goes into childhood cancer. Children are using chemo therapy drugs form 20 years ago, only 3% of all cancer goes toward childhood cancers. I encourage people to donate to Childhood Research centers.

Artist

A year ago I started painting a model I had met, and right after she was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma. I turned that series of paintings into The Bre Project. Osteoscaroma makes your bones develop too quickly, so she was tall, she looked a lot older. I had ideas for paintings that I thought she would work well for. Normally I make the painting, frame it, and I send it to a gallery. With this I thought, I’ve got to make a whole series of these and then have a major exhibition.

The family is the nicest people. The doctors didn’t ask her dad what he did for a living, they just said “you can’t afford this”. It’s a massive amount of money, but they’re willing to do whatever it takes. They’re a tight knit family, they’ve rallied together and put all their focus into it.

The kickstarter is for me to have an advertising and exhibition budget. I’ve already had materials donated to me form different vendors. After the show, we’ll give a large portion of the sales back to the family.

Bre is beautiful, these are not painting of a weak feeble person, these are aesthetic paintings that show her strength through this process.
