TCHP-000-Pants
The call is for “LDS Women to Unite: Wear pants to church in solidarity for women’s equality. If you already wear pants to church (we’re talking to you men!), we invite you to show your support by wearing a purple shirt, tie, socks, or ribbon, purple being a color historically associated with the suffrage movement. This is the first act of All Enlisted, a direct action group for Mormon women to advocate for equality within our faith.

It’s a shame that people think we have to be the same to be equal. I’m proud to wear a dress or skirt, and will not be demoralized by an absurd idea that being feminine makes me any less equal. With the logic of the Wear Pants to church group-we should all be the same color, wear the same clothes, speak the same language…this is disheartening and discouraging to hear that people of supposedly the same faith feel this way. Must be the Last Days or something.

  • Liffey Banks says:

    Well done, Kimberly!

  • Treehouse says:

WHAAAT!?!?!? I didn’t know that not wearing pants was a sign of oppression. Give me a break.

  • Debbie says:

Sadly the church is losing so many members, we should be welcoming people to our wards in whatever clothes they choose to wear. It’s more important to make people feel comfortable in church than to make a fuss over what they are wearing.

Some of my friends are Catholic and one thing I like about their services is that they allow people to attend Mass in whatever they happen to be wearing. This means that people can go to Mass after work or after a ballgame or after a formal reception. No one has to go home to change their clothes first. You can go in a dress or pants, no one cares.

  • Sarah says:

Get a grip. If you don’t think women are equal then protest your marriage not your church. Wearing pants? So you can try to make a statement? What statement? That men wear pants? you are NoT a man you are a woman! Be yourself and be proud of it. Woman are awesome! Our faith Believes that! You are up in the night!

  • John says:

“What?? This got attention? I can’t believe it!”

    I call B-S!

  • Amy says:

There is no regulation against women wearing pants to church…our ward in California has several women who do it regularly and they are accepted just as much as the rest of us. What is the REAL motivation behind this movement?

  • Amy says:

PS We should have seen by now that “equality” is not all it’s cracked up to be. Men and women are inherently different and we compliment each other nicely. God understands that and designed His church that way. Yes, some men within His church misunderstand their roles and may even abuse them but so do women….

  • Chad says:

So wait, if a woman wears pants that makes her the same as a man? Holy hermaphrodites Batman! I had no idea that the the concept of femininity was so flimsy that simply wearing pants negates the differences between the sexes.

    Yeesh, some of these comments…

  • Jim says:

As Kim says in this interview, this is not about the church saying women can’t wear pants (especially sense they don’t). She says it is their first step toward doctrinal equality so there are not only men in Bishoprics and boys passing the sacrament. This is just another example of using the tried and true method of making a non-issue into an issue to further the real agenda. They are fishing. How many suckers will they catch?

  • Angela says:

Lame. But if it gets some bitter feminists to church, knock yourselves out, ladies.

  • MP says:

I don’t get it. If these women want “peaceful resistence” why don’t they simply stop attending?

    • Aubrey says:

This has to be one of the most un-Christlike thing I’ve heard in a long time. There is room in the gospel for everyone.

  • MP says:

Having listened to this now and ep 38, I’m shocked at how shallow and greedy these ‘feminists’ are. My wife has called herself a feminist since we were both undergrads at Cal, and I wouldn’t put these women on her level.

As a father of two girls, I’d be horrified if they grew up as weak and whiney as these women come off.

  • jc says:

Don’t quote doctrine if you’re unsure. 3 Nephi 18:5. “and I give power that he shall break bread and bless it and GIVE it unto the people of my church.” So yes you need the priesthood to pass it.
I love this gospel. I love being wearing my best dress. I’ve never felt lower than, less than, I support my husband in his callings, as he supports me. He and I are equally important yet have different strengths and talents that build our family and our ward.
If you want to worship with me, wear what ever you want. If you want to change doctrine, start your own religion.

  • ML says:

So, wearing pants or a dress to church defines the sex of the person? So all those men in Polyneisa or Scotland, who chose to wear culturally significant clothing ie… kilts or lava lava’s are “girly men”? she says that she didnt want to make a big deal out of it – if she didnt want the attention, why didnt she just wear pants to church and move on? She does want the attention and does want it to be a big deal. We served a mission in an area of the state where the people were less fortunate and they wore the best they had. some women lived in the Women’s Shelter and some of the men were homeless. The Best they had was levi’s or sweat pants and flip flops. Those people were never looked down upon for what they wore, They were looked up to for participating in the ordinances that were offered by the priesthood of the church. Thanks Richie for giving everyone a voice. I appreciate the show for getting my blood pumping again. LOL have a good day!

  • Sheryl says:

Doctrine Equality is mandated by God and passed down through his living prophets. If someone believes there is a problem with “doctrine equality” they need to bring it up with God, and I would be surprised if wearing pants or skirts to church is going to change his mind about His doctrine. I am guessing the women starting this movement are Utah women, maybe bored women, and sadly insecure in their beliefs and may be confusing a cultural inequality with diving revelation. I hope that people will be kind to them as they figure out their beliefs and I hope theses women will be kind to the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, in regards to their true motives.

  • Thanks for this interview. I referenced it in my most recent post.

It looks like the event was recently taken down on facebook.

    Fascinating interview.

For many years, I’ve tried to listen understand the feminist position. It’s very confusing to me.

Can someone recommend a resource that explains what feminists want to replace the ‘Patriarchy’ with?

  • Teresa says:

Women that feel like they should have the priesthood too or that they should get to wear pants are insecure. This is Gods church and with that I “follow the prophet” he will never lead us a stray. No you wont be kicked out for wearing pants as a women, but its a matter of reverence and respect for our Heavenly Father. Just as men even though in pants should wear white shirts. Men and women will never be completely equal in all things. We will see many people fall away from the church because they think things should be a certain way..well your not in charge, the Prophet is.
