Missionary work is like trick-or-treating all of the time! Except WE GIVE the treats, and occassionally people give us tricks… 🙂 But I love it! It’s so much fun! I hope you all enjoy your chance to greet/scare your neighbors with your creative costumes!! 🙂
I think Heavenly Father makes the leaves fall down to give us a chance to serve people. We were blessed with the chance to help an older widowed gentleman who reminds me of Mr. Rodgers (from Mr. Rogers’ neighborhood). He made my comp. a grilled cheese sandwich (and gave me bananas and cheese…so cute!) after we raked his yard. We gave him a Book of Mormon about 2 weks ago on his doorstep and sang him a song about family since his wife recently passed! I thought it was so cheesy after we sang him that song, but I knew it was what the spirit wanted us to do! So we followed up with him. He brought out his Book of Mormon and it was covered in Post-it notes! He has so many questions! We loved teaching him! He’s unsure of whether or not he wants to get baptised, but I know he’s getting super close to accepting the truths! 🙂 His name is KEN! The amazing thing about Ken is that he has a grand-daughter who just got baptised! And she’s in our ward!!! I was so shocked to hear about all of it. I’m pretty sure he’s GOLDEN!!! After we taught him a little bit about the Plan of Salvation, he said, “Wow. You just filled a hole in my brain that’s been missing for a long time!” I’m so lucky, and I really think that He’ll turn into a baptism!! 🙂
We gave a training in Distric Meeting this week. It’s amazing how much the Lord has helped me get better at teaching. That would’ve scared me so bad before and I would’ve had to prepare for HOURS! But now we can pull it out in an hour. You just gotta listen to the spirit and he’ll help ya!! 🙂
The people we teach are so concerned for us. We had two flashlights given to us by our investigators because they didn’t want us to walk home in the dark… 🙂
We had a really neat experience again to find someone! We typed in an address on our GPS to get to a dinner appointment in Dunlap. However, the GPS took us to a completely different place in another city for some reason!!! So we pulled over to figure out how to get back to our appointment. When we looked up there was this little boy who said, “Hey! Will you come to my house and meet my family?” And we looked at each other and kinda freaked out, “Of course we will!!” Haha! So we went over and met his family! We’ll see what happens there, but I know it wasn’t hapenstance we met them! And that there was a little boy outside to greet us… :S The spirit led the GPS. 🙂
About Al…We were so excited, but he called us and turned us down. Sorry to get your hopes up. hahah. 🙂 Diana Janda also turned us down and said she’ll get baptised in about 10 years… :S Better late than never I guess. :0S But Someone sis. Thompson and I found in Davenport 2 months ago is getting baptised this weekend! yaaay! So the work is moving forward!
We had a chili-cook off for the ward and a bunch of non-members came!! It was perfect for referrals! I dressed up as minnie-mouse! We can wear costumes as long as it’s still a dress. 🙂 See the little baby MickY in the picture? 🙂 I love these little black babies! 🙂 They have so much personality. I have dressed up as Pocahontas and Candy Corn so far! :0) On Halloween, our Relief Society President is letting us and the 4 other Elders stay at her GIANT MANSION HOUSE (her husband is Vice-President of Caterpillar) for a couple of hours and be in “Lock-down” for safety. President Jergensen said we can watch a movie and play games as long as it’s uplifting! Woah, that’s a big shocker!! hehe 🙂 We’re excited!
Love you all so much and wish you the best!
Happy as can be,
Sister Tobias 🙂
