Brownies – Chocolate is Good Food

We all know that chocolate is the nectar of the gods.  For women, chocolate is the next best thing to diamonds.  Most historians believe that chocolate has been in the world for about 2000 delicious years, and apparently recent research indicates that chocolate may be even older than that.

Apparently chocolate has always been cherished.  For centuries, cacao beans were actually even used as a form of currency. Hmmm, no one ever pays me in chocolate bars (oh yum, relish the though).  The Mayans and Aztecs believed the beans to contain magical powers and used them in sacred rituals.

Chocolate was a drink considered to be quite fashionable in Europe by the 17th century.  It was thought that it was nutritious, medicinal, and to contain aphrodisiac properties.  Clearly those MUST be true.  Or at least, I like to pretend they are.

But things really got good in 1847 when genius Joseph Fry created the first modern chocolate bar which was marketed by Cadbury and Nestle a few years later.

We could probably write an entire book about everything that can be done with chocolate (not that you dirty bird), but one of my favorite things to do is make brownies, and they have to have frosting.  What better than to top chocolate with more chocolate!  J
